Surviving the first two weeks

It's been two weeks since we took Bethany home, which feels much longer than it is mainly from sleep deprivation and the ultimate endurance required to fulfill the needs of a newborn. We were told the first few weeks are usually the worst, and I am glad part of it was already over. We can see improvement day after day. At first, she has to be held all the time but now she's able to sleep on her own for a few hours during the day. Her eating is going well and she never fails to amaze me on how much/often she can eat (there's no doubt whose kid she is). At her 2-week checkup, she's already gained back her weight at discharge from the hospital. She's roughly gaining 1 oz a day which is normal for girls. She's already grown an inch too - she's 21 inches long now. Her umbilical cord fell off after exactly 2 weeks, so we can soon start tummy time.
How mom and dad are doing - Mom learnt a new skill - "sleep-on-demand" since she has to work with baby's schedule which is still quite unpredictable. She's trying to get as much rest as she can, thanks a lot to grandma's help. Not only does grandma take care of the meals, she is also very helpful doing chores and soothing the baby.
Dad went back to work after two weeks but he would pretty much stay at home. Daddy is still learning the hang of carrying the baby. Baby usually cries when daddy picks her up. Mommy thinks that this is the reflection of the rest of their lives as she would play daddy around her little pinkies in the future. Although still needing to get up to speed with handling the baby, daddy does great with making sure we have everything we need around the house.
