According to an independent survey done by Grandma, we found that many friends and family are reading our blog in Hong Kong. Hence, Mommy decided to write both in English and Chinese, so that she can practice her Chinese, as well as making it easier for people to read. However, this is difficult because:
1) Mommy hasn't had a chance to write in Chinese since first year in college. All her papers, and later on documents at work, were done in English.
2) Mommy cannot use her Cantonese words because we have friends that are not from Hong Kong and would not understand those words. She can't use difficult Chinese words either because Daddy would be the first one who won't understand it (although he claims that he has many years of Chinese education and can understand difficult hymns and verses).
Let's see how long Mommy can last...

跟據婆婆的獨立市場調查, 原來有不少在香港的親朋戚友很關心我們, 經常閱覽這個網誌. 有見及此, 媽咪會嘗試中英兩用, 實行一誌兩文. 這樣一來可以方便大家閱讀, 二來可以讓媽咪練習久違了的中文 (我家最近買了新電腦, 以前的是媽咪七年前來美國時買的, 行的仍是Windows 2000, 沒有中文輸入. 以電腦年齡計算, 已是三世紀前的古董, 記憶容量絕對不能應付我與日俱增的照片. 新電腦不但有大容量, 還能讓媽咪輸入中文). 但是此舉難度有二:
1) 自從大學一年級後, 媽咪已沒有機會用中文, 因為所有論文, 及後來工作時的文件往來, 都是以英文為主, 就算是當年勇奪中文會考A1的那張寶刀, 也難免老態畢現. 加上要用中文打字, 也不禁手不應心.
2) 由於媽咪爹地有非香港人的朋友, 用詞不能太粵語化, 那些"啲, 呀, 囉"的港府字不能用. 此外詞彙不能太深, 因為爹地會是第一位看不明白的人 (儘管他常說自己有多年中文教育, 能看懂深奧的詩歌經文等等). (你看, 媽咪多麼懂得為自己留一條後路, 好讓她用詞不當的時候, 有一個好藉口).
